Travelling around Hollywood

Tuesday 23rd Feb 2010

Well we arrived in LA on Sunday because there was a pilots strike on the airline we were booked on, so we had to go with Swissair a day earlier. We took a tour around LA and Hollywood yesterday which was pretty good. We stopped and had a look at some of the stars on the walk of fame and had a wander down Rodeo Drive. The conference starts tomorrow and goes for three day until friday. So we will have a bit more of a look around today, we are going to have a walk up to Santa Monica and take some photos.

GRANIT Conference Finished

Well it snowed heaps today. The GRANIT conference is over and we trained and bused it to Annecy where we are staying tonight. We will have a look around tomorrow. Below are some of the photos of the snow you can't really see how much snow is falling but the videos i took show it pretty well.

Friday-19th-Feb-2010
Well it is the last day of the conference today. It is snowing today so all the paths are covered in a layer of snow and we can't see Les Houche from the conference because of the low laying cloud. We are headed to Annecy this afternoon and are staying there tonight and then staying with Allan's friend for the weekend before we flyout from Geneva on Monday.
I will get some photos up of me in the snow as soon as I get a chance to transfer them onto my computer.

Friday 19th February

The kids had their second swimming lesson this afternoon. They are both making fantastic progress. Brandon is putting his head in and blowing bubbles and elizabeth is learning how to do back stroke.
It has been a very busy week and I am exhausted. We are heading to Leeton for the day tomorrow and the kids are looking forward to that.
I had the oven blow a fuse this evening and it gave me a bit of a scare, but about an hour later after reading manuals and investigating I discovered the light bulb had blown, so there is the first job for daddy to do when he gets home.
The grass is long and I am going to have to mow on sunday so that is my weekend just about planned out.

Thursday-18-Feb-2010

To answer Brandon's and Elizabeth's questions flying overseas is long, boring and cramped. However, some of it was good we got to see the new years celebration fireworks when we were leaving Singapore because we took off just before midnight so as we were flying over the city there were fireworks everywhere as far as we could see.
I didn't do much yesterday besides go to the conference and wash some clothes, so i don't have any photos from yesterday to put up. I will take some photos today and put them up tonight my time. There were some good talks yesterday one on Noncommutative quantum mechanics and GRANIT constraints on Standard Model extensions was pretty interesting.
Allan is doing our talk today on gravitational eigenstates so we are hoping everything goes really well with it.
The weather is changing today low fog and dark clouds have come in so we might have some snow fall tonight and tomorrow i will get photos if it does start snowing.
Hope you had fun at preschool Elizabeth and hope you are feeling better.

very late Wednesday 17th

Well it was bound to come. Lib has started wheezing this evening. She seems to be very blocked up with a head cold. It does not seem very bad at this stage though. It appears that the new preventer medication is working. I just wish something would dry her nose up. Between her and Brandon I am getting sick of no sleep.
Brandon is enjoying school and it is so great to hear all the new stuff he is learning. Today he came home and showed me what a comma was, what a question mark was and what an apostrophe was. I know it is only little but he has only been at school for three weeks.
Elizabeth had her second ballet class this afternoon and again she came home all smiles. She got a stamp off Miss Bonnis because she was such a great dancer. Not sure at this stage whether she will be well enough to go to preschool tomorrow. I will have to wait and see if she gets any sleep or whether she will just watch Dora all night which is what she is doing at the moment.
School has kept me very busy. I have so much work to get done before the review. I just hope that all my effort will not benefit someone else. Will see Leah on Friday. That will be useful.
Brandon can duck dive down to the bottom of the pool now and touch the bottom. He is very pleased with his progress and is looking forward to showing Mr Poynter on Friday how much he has learnt. Elizabeth is amazing. She is a fish. She is swimming under water and can float on her back.
Daddy will not be able to recognise how much they have improved when he gets back.

People skiing

Wed 17th morning

Hi daddy
Brandon and Lib loved your photos from the ski lift. They just wanted to know why there was no one skiing.
Brandon wants to know what it is like to go in a plane across the seas.
Lib just wants to know when you are coming home. It is a very long time.
We love you daddy

15-Feb-2010

Well done Brandon for getting an award. The conference takes up most of the day its goes from about 8 in the morning until 7:30 at night but we have a couple of hours off in the afternoon. We walked into Les Houches again this afternoon to have another look around and see if we could find some souveniers for family. We also went up to the top of the ski fields on one of the ski lifts, awesome view over Les Houche and also down the other side o the mountain across the Alps. I am still trying to get over the jetlag, I keep waking up at about 4:30am in the morning which is a pain lol. I will get some photos of me in the snow for you tomorrow Brandon.
